Google launched a new mobile-friendly testing tool requiring very little technical knowledge
The bonus is that you don’t have to be a web designer to use it.
Google is very good at making complicated things accessible for all, including mobile-friendly testing.
All you have to do is type your website’s URL into the tool
This will tell you how your site performs across mobile and desktop devices.
The key point for businesses is that mobile searches have surpassed desktop searches for the first time in internet history. This is critical for businesses and companies, as well as Google.
The websites showing up in search results must be accessible, functional, and and easy to view and navigate on smartphones and tablets.
The new website testing tool (available at testmysite.thinkwithgoogle.com) is simple to use. Just type in your website address, and the tool will score your site.
Know exactly what’s wrong
It will also offer a more detailed report that suggests things you need to fix, which you could pass on to whoever runs your website. We just tested our web design portfolio website (www.vcm.co.uk) and got a 98% score on mobile friendliness!
The launch of this tool comes as Google is heavily focused on transitioning its business to the mobile web. It has invested in new technologies like AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages), which loads faster on mobile devices and uses less data.
Google has also updated its search algorithm, taking mobile-friendliness into serious account as a ranking symbol.
When Google announced the new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm, it said this would have a “significant impact” on mobile search results.
So, you will fall behind the competition if you don’t have a mobile marketing strategy. Still, only 60% of small businesses have websites optimised for mobile devices. This is not enough.
The desktop version of a website requires the user to pinch or zoom to read the content. Users find this a frustrating experience and are likely to abandon the site.
Alternatively, the mobile-friendly responsive version is readable and immediately usable.
So, make sure you have a fully mobile-responsive website that loads quickly and provides an excellent user experience to your visitors, as it will boost your conversions.
