Why you need a social media content calendar for your business
If you want to get the most out of your social media marketing plan, creating a social media content calendar is the best place to start.
Managing the creation and publishing of content can be challenging, but by getting organised, you can figure out a schedule that works for your business.
Creating a calendar can give you access to all the necessary information and resources in one place.
Creating your content calendar
Your social media calendar should be easy to read and contain all the necessary information for your content.
Depending on your business type and whether you manage your own business social media or several companies, you must decide the best way to organise your spreadsheet.
As we look after different companies’ social media, we organise ours by tabs; however, if you are looking after your own, you can sort the tabs monthly. It all depends on what’s easiest for you to read and understand.
Why do we use a content calendar
Because we manage several companies’ social media (see services), it can sometimes get overwhelming. It’s easy to forget whose social media you’ve posted on and whose you haven’t.
Creating a calendar lets us tick off which social media we’ve posted on daily.
As we generate blog/newsletter content for some businesses, our content calendar allows users to see what posts we’ve previously made and when another should be posted. Another way we like to use our content calendar is by looking up national days that work well for certain businesses.
For example, we manage the social media for 24 dentists, an online adult retailer. Since March is ‘National Smile Month,’ we can create theme posts around it and create more content.
We also like to include important events. As one of our clients is a retailer, knowing when daylight saving hours change can make for a good social media post.
